WASHINGTON (June, 2017)–National Geographic has announced an expanded partnership with The Great Courses, the leading developer of video and audio courses in the United States, to National Geographic Live, National Geographic’s touring speaker series. The Great Courses will serve as the presenting sponsor of National Geographic Live, helping to make the series possible in select cities throughout the 2017-2018 season.
National Geographic and The Great Courses have partnered on various endeavors since 2013, including eight National Geographic branded courses. Among these courses are “The Guide to Landscape and Wildlife Photography” with National Geographic photographers Michael Melford and Tim Laman, “Wonders of the National Parks” with National Geographic Expedition’s Director of Programming Ford Cochran, and “Fundamentals of Photography” with National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore as well as other courses focused on science and photography. The courses are also available through the new platform The Great Courses Plus, which offers subscriptions to a library of over 4,000 hours of content.
“National Geographic is proud to extend our partnership with The Great Courses to National Geographic Live events,” said Yulia Boyle, Senior Vice President, International Publishing and Experiences for National Geographic Partners. “Through this unique collaboration we will connect our National Geographic Live audiences to enriching educational material that will deepen their understanding of the world and further support their love of learning.”
“We believe in the transformative power of premium education experiences and our mission is to empower lifelong learning,” said Cale Pritchett, Vice President of Marketing for The Great Courses. “National Geographic has been a leader in lifelong learning and exploration for over 120 years and we are thrilled to be part of the National Geographic Live events.”
Today, National Geographic and The Great Courses launched a brand-new course “The National Geographic Guide to Birding in North America.” Taught by birding expert James Currie, the new course introduces learners to the joys of birding and bird identification through 24 engaging lectures. The course uses the upcoming National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, 7th Edition, which is part of National Geographic’s bestselling guides, as a foundation and reference.
